Project goal
Nordea bank had the problem that not enough of their young users didn’t save up much. They wanted us to make a concept to make it easier for them to save up.
My role – UX/UI designer
I was working with a team of UX designers, were we have to work together to find the best solution. The tasks involves research, analyzing, prototyping, testing and presentation. The method we choose is design sprint, with the span of one week. Each day is set to do each design phase.

Make it easy to save up!
1. Quality interviews: We did 9 interviews, were we focus on the target groups economic habits, bank industry and savings.
Many could remember when they were a child saving up with piggy bank. Which could be a good motivator.
Most students answered that they don’t have enough income to put aside, or they spend too much money on food and materials brand.
Out of the interviews, everyone economic situation is different. If you have a fulltime job or a student. But what they all have incoming, they all have a bad habit of using the bank app to save up.
2. Value proposition canvas:(unfortunately the model is in danish) A model to help with define users and company/product. To get a better overview the users is define with “Pains”, “Gains” and “Jobs” of saving up. Nordea’s value is define by “Products and services”, “Gain creators” and “Pain relievers”.
The fact that Nordea already have a existing app there is no need to make a seperate one. And the new concept can be implemented in that.
3. Persona: A persona was made to descript our target group. Our persona is Christan Krøyer a 24 years old. A student at the university CBS. Lives with three roommates in Copenhagen. Have a parttime job. Every weekend he go out and drink with his friends. He also does impulse shopping. His bad economic habits makes it harder or him to save up for the future to buy a apartment for himself.
4. Concept developing: With the research gathered, definition of the target group and Nordea. The next phase is to brainstorm the solution. We used a method, were each of the designer draw their own roadmap. And then we all discuss each roadmap one by one, and pinpoint the pros and con. When we all agrees on the pros from each designs, the first draft of concept began. The good element we could take from the drawings, a piggy bank to see the money go into. A saving profile to get a overview of all savings.
Its important for the user to set it up easily, and don’t have to go into the app to put saving into the account every time.
Concept solution: The concept is called “Piggy bank” which is build in Nordea currently bank app. Where users can set goals to save up. Track all their savings and get a fun feeling when saving up.
Save each month: Set the amount the app automatic put into the saving goal each month.
Save when using the credit card: Whenever they use their credit card it add a small portion to the saving goal. You can set the amount and a limit. The feature is user friendly on the setup, and will give a visual feeling of putting saving into a piggy bank.
Notification: Notify the user whenever you reach a goal.
The concept is easy to setup and be fun to save up money with your piggy bank.
Test of prototype: The prototype has been tested on 1o people. They been giving their first impression. “Think out loud test” they have to do some tasks to fulfill without any help, to see if the protype lead the user as they function to do.
The feedback: Some find the texts too long in the setup process. The other thing is you can get a bit lost when doing the setup. So we tweak it with shorter and more precise text, and a visual bread-crums to show you how far you are in the process.
Handover: We presented the concept for Nordea’s service-design team. Showed them our process thoughts and documentation and ended it with the journey video. We also gave them the prototype link, to experience the concept themself.
They were happy with our work and could use all our work for their project.
